The University of Algiers 1 hosts a symposium on preventing and combating human trafficking
On Sunday, June 23, 2024, The University of Algiers 1 Benyoucef Benkhedda hosted a symposium on preventing and combating human trafficking in the Mohamed Nouas Auditorium at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The event was held under the supervision of the Rector University, Professor Fares Mokhtari, and in the presence of the Vice-rectors and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Judicial Police Directorate, the National Gendarmerie, the People’s National Assembly, the Senate, the Supreme Court, the Organ Donation Agency, and professors from the faculties of Medicine, Law, and Islamic sciences at the University of Algiers 1 and the University of Batna.
In his opening speech, Professor Fares Mokhtari emphasized the importance of shedding light on this sensitive issue that affects human dignity and the right to a decent life, and the necessity of combating all its forms. He also underlined that this symposium is part of the Algerian government’s endeavours to combat human trafficking.
The professors’ interventions addressed security, legal, medical and religious aspects of this phenomenon. Different forms of human trafficking were also discussed, including illegal migration in Africa, trafficking in human organs, and the exploitation of women and children for immoral purposes.
The symposium concluded with a question-answer session where the professors answered the questions of the audience.
